Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Draa Valley – Zagora
Morocco 4×4 tours to Mhamid : Early morning departure from your riad/hotel in Marrakech and drive through the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizin’Tichka Pass (2260 m), the highest road pass in Morocco, offering spectacular panoramic views of mountains, valleys and colorful Berber villages.
Traveling southwards, we stop on the way to visit the kasbahs of Tamnougalte and Ait Benhaddou. With its UNESCO listed spectacular Kasbah, Ait Benhaddou is a famous site for Hollywood movies shooting such as Gladiator in 2000. The trip continues south through the palm-lined Draa valley to Zagora, where you’ll have dinner and spend the night at a hotel.
Day 2: Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Erg Lihoudi
After breakfast, you will have enough time to visit Zagora and its surroundings, especially the Jewish quarter in Amzerou and the palm groves. From Zagora, we travel east towards the desert making a stop in Tamgroute, an important town during the Saadian dynasty in the 16th century, to visit its old Koran library and subterranean kasbah. We then continue onto Mhamid, where you’ll have lunch in a typical Moroccan restaurant.
Starting early in the afternoon, experience nomadic life by riding camels through the desert and appreciate its various landscapes (Erg, Reg, Hammada, etc). Enjoy dinner and overnight stay in nomad tents or under the stars in the midst of the Erg Lihoudi sand dunes.
Day 3: Erg Lihoudi – Sacred Oasis – Chegaga sand dunes
After breakfast at the dunes,take a two hours camel ride in the Sahara desert towards M’hamid, where lunch will be served. From M’hamid, we travel by 4×4 vehicle through the beautiful desert landscape and stop for tea break in the Sacred Oasis before reaching the sand dunes of Chegaga – the largest group of dunes in the region reaching a height of 300 m and a span of40 km. Overnight stay at the nomad camp where you can enjoy dinner and entertainment.
Day 4: Chegaga sand dunes – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech
Admire the sunrise over the dunes and enjoy breakfast before departing with 4×4 vehicles to Foum Zguid via the old Paris-Dakar road that crosses Iriqui lake. We will stop in the Berber village of Taznakht for lunch before taking the route back to Marrakech, where arrival is expected at 6:30 p.m.
